REVISION / SUPPORTAS Biology Calendar
for the year
|
There are only two and a half terms until your AS exams which is not long! This is designed to ensure that you know what is going on in that time, and what is expected of you as students. It is important that parents also know so that they do not suddenly get any nasty shocks. ATTITUDE There is an enormous leap from GCSE to A level. Students at A level are here because they have chosen to be. We therefore expect them to be self motivated and take responsibility for their own learning. If there is something they are unsure about they must take the initiative to ask . When homework is set it must be handed in by the deadline or it may not be marked and the student will not receive the feedback and experience they would have gained. HOMEWORK In Biology, students always have homework even if it is not a set piece to hand in. Every week students should be reading about the subject from their issued text book, library books and the internet. The county and university libraries are good sources. Students should use this to make their own notes in advance of the lessons so that they can use the lessons to understand & discuss.the work rather than making notes from scratch. After the lessons they may want to do some more background reading and consolidate their notes. Everything we do needs to be memorised thoroughly for the exams. It is very difficult to do this all at the end, so each week students should memorise that week's work. This will make final revision easier but also help with understanding as each lesson's work will often build on the previous lesson. WRITTEN NOTES Students are totally responsible for their own written notes and these should form the core of their records. When they read around the subject they should add this information to their notes. When they revise they should revise from their notes. On no account should they try to revise from text books or revision guides. Revision guides only give a summary of the work and the best exam grade from these will be an E. |
